The Ford Escape: Your Next Getaway SUV
The 2026 Ford Escape marks the final model year for this generation of the compact SUV before Ford transitions the Louisville Assembly plant to electric vehicle production. For its send-off year, the Ford Escape carries over largely unchanged, maintaining its position as a versatile compact crossover. A significant update for 2026 is the elimination of the front-wheel-drive hybrid configuration. The 2.5-liter hybrid powertrain is now exclusively offered with all-wheel drive on certain trims. Trim levels of the include Active, ST-Line, ST-Line Select, ST-Line Elite, Platinum, and PHEV variants.
Six Ford Escape Options For Every Driver
The Ford Escape maintains its contemporary styling with refined proportions that balance compact maneuverability with SUV presence. All-wheel-drive models measure 181.2 inches in length, 74.1 inches in width, and 66.1 inches in height, riding on a 106.7-inch wheelbase. Front-wheel-drive configuration is slightly shorter at 180.1 inches in length. This year’s Ford Escape features a minimum ground clearance of 7.5 inches. The ST-Line variants distinguish themselves with unique 18- or 19-inch wheels, body-colored lower cladding, a mesh grille design, and an integrated rear spoiler for a sportier appearance. An available LED light bar across the front adds a distinctive, modern touch to the face of the Ford Escape. Chrome beltline molding and LED fog lamps on higher trims add sophistication, while the available panoramic Vista Roof with power shade enhances the open-air feel. The design strikes an effective balance between bold SUV character and urban-friendly dimensions.
Ford Escape Quiet Style Worth Shouting About
The Ford Escape cabin offers seating for five passengers in a 2-3 configuration with a total passenger volume of 104 cubic feet in EcoBoost models (102.2 cubic feet in hybrid variants). The cabin features updated materials for 2026, with higher-quality finishes throughout and ActiveX trimmed seats on the Platinum model that are both comfortable and stain-resistant. The second-row seats slide up to 5.9 inches to optimize either passenger comfort or cargo space. Interior trim includes piano black and metal-look accents on the instrument panel, door panels, and console. The center stack has been redesigned with improved control layout, and wireless charging is available on higher trims. EcoBoost models offer up to 65.4 cubic feet of cargo space behind the first row (37.5 cubic feet behind the second row), while hybrid and plug-in hybrid models provide 60.8 cubic feet behind the first row (34.4 cubic feet behind the second row). With a classic design, modern features, and reasonable pricing, this SUV is dressed to impress.

The Ford Co-Pilot360 suite of driver-assist technologies comes standard and includes Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Pedestrian Detection, Forward Collision Warning, Dynamic Brake Support, and a Lane-Keeping System with Lane-Keeping Assist, Lane-Keeping Alert, and Driver Alert. Rev Up Your Ford Escape Routine
The Ford Escape offers four distinct powertrain options to suit various driver needs. The base turbocharged 1.5-liter EcoBoost three-cylinder engine produces 180 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque, standard on the Active and ST-Line trims, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission with driver-selectable modes. The more powerful turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine delivers 250 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. The 2.5-liter hybrid four-cylinder powertrain generates 192 total system horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque, now exclusively offered with all-wheel drive for 2026. The plug-in hybrid variant uses the same 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine but produces 210 total system horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque, available only in front-wheel drive. Maximum towing capacity reaches 3,500 pounds when equipped with the Class II Trailer Tow Package and 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine.
Ford Escape Hybrid
The 2026 Ford Escape Hybrid combines gas and electric forces in its available powertrain with 192 total system horsepower, utilizing regenerative braking to help charge the battery without plugging in. The conventional Ford Escape Hybrid achieves EPA estimates of 42 mpg city and 36 mpg highway. For 2026, the ST-Line and Platinum trims no longer offer front-wheel drive in conjunction with the hybrid powertrain. The Ford Escape Hybrid features a spacious cabin with a sliding second row that allows passengers to gain up to 5.9 extra inches of legroom. Shoppers can equip it with a large 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen with SYNC 4.
Ford Escape PHEV
The 2026 Ford Escape Plug-In Hybrid delivers 210 total system horsepower with the ability to drive all electric, all gas, or a combination of both. It offers a maximum EPA-estimated all-electric range of 37 miles. With a fully charged battery, the front-wheel-drive-only Ford Escape PHEV achieves 101 MPGe in mixed driving, then 40 mpg combined once the battery is depleted, enabling many drivers to complete their daily commutes without using any gasoline. Charging is flexible, with Level 1 charging using a standard 120V household outlet taking about 10 to 11 hours for a full charge. Level 2 charging reduces that time to approximately 3.5 hours. The Ford Escape PHEV offers selectable drive modes including Auto EV, EV Now, EV Later, and Charge. With an overall driving range of 550 miles in hybrid mode, the well-equipped Ford Escape Plug-In Hybrid comes standard with features like 18-inch wheels, heated front seats, a 13.2-inch touchscreen, and adaptive cruise control.
