Pickup Truck Emoji

On July 17, 2019, Ford celebrated World Emoji Day with the debut of the pickup truck emoji.

Emojis are used every day in text messages and on social media. Once only used to describe facial expressions, emojis are now used to describe and articulate a variety of activities, foods, animals, symbols and even relationships and values. Emojis are even used now to order food from certain stores and with certain apps!

Last year Ford noticed a disparity in the emojis available on smart devices and smartphones. There was no pickup truck emoji. In response to this issue, Ford sent a proposal to the Unicode Consortium, the organization responsible for reviewing and approving new emojis, and petitioned to add a truck emoji to emoji keyboards everywhere.

In a recent press release, Joe Hinrichs, the president of Ford Motor company, said this proposal was in direct response to customers’ complaints about the lack of a pickup truck emoji. This is just one example of how Ford listens to and responds to their customers’ needs, even if its a simple need like a pickup truck emoji.

Truck and smartphone-lovers everywhere can get excited, because thanks to Ford, you will soon be able to use the pickup truck emoji on your smartphone or tablet. Hopefully, the new pickup truck emoji will be approved by 2020. And who knows? Maybe the day is coming soon when you can order and purchase a Ford pickup truck with the pickup truck emoji.
