A Ford Explorer That Makes You Want To Take The Scenic Route
The 2026 Ford Explorer introduces the off-road-focused Tremor trim to its lineup, replacing the discontinued Timberline model. The Tremor represents the most capable Ford Explorer ever produced. It rides on 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires and can be equipped with an optional 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine for maximum off-road performance. Beyond the Tremor addition, the Ford Explorer carries over the significant mid-cycle refresh from the previous year, which brought updated LED lighting, a larger grille with trim-specific designs, new LED taillights, and interior refinements. A panoramic fixed glass roof is now available across all models. The Ford Explorer continues to offer seating for up to seven passengers and maintains its position as one of America's best-selling three-row midsize SUVs.
There’s A Ford Explorer For Everyone
The Ford Explorer maintains its bold, contemporary styling with dimensions that include a length of 198.7 inches, width of 78.9 inches (without mirrors), and a wheelbase of 119.1 inches. A redesigned front fascia with a re-sculpted grille is specific to each trim level, along with modern LED headlamps with signature daytime running lights. Rear styling showcases updated LED taillights integrated into a new rear bumper design, giving the Ford Explorer a premium profile. Standard equipment includes 18-inch wheels on base models, while higher trims feature 20-inch alloy wheels, and the ST-Line, ST, and Platinum trims offer an optional black-painted roof for a sportier appearance. The Tremor trim distinguishes itself with rugged styling elements including electric spice-colored tow hooks and badges, silver front skid plates, off-road lighting, and unique exterior accents. Ground clearance ranges from 7.6 inches on standard models to 8.6 inches on the lifted Tremor variant.
Enjoy The Journey In A Ford Explorer
The Ford Explorer cabin offers accommodations for up to seven passengers across three rows. The interior features a tiered dashboard design with soft-touch surfaces, ambient lighting with customizable colors, and contrast stitching on higher trims. Cloth upholstery comes standard, while available upgrades include leather-trimmed seating, heated and ventilated front seats with optional massaging capability, heated second-row seats, and a power-folding third row on select trims. The Ford Explorer Tremor features unique orange contrast stitching with Tremor embossing on the seatbacks. Cargo capacity measures 16.3 cubic feet behind the third row, expands to 46 cubic feet with the third row folded, and provides a maximum of 85.8 cubic feet with both rear rows folded flat. The versatile interior layout and thoughtful storage solutions make the Ford Explorer well-suited for both daily family duties and extended road trips.
Ford Explorer Connectivity & More
The Ford Explorer features a comprehensive technology suite centered around a standard 13.2-inch touchscreen display with the Ford Digital Experience infotainment system. It’s powered by Google, offering web browsing, music and video streaming, gaming capabilities when parked, and direct app downloads from Google Play. A 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster sits directly in front of the driver, providing customizable information displays including vehicle readouts and integrated Google Maps navigation. The Ford Explorer includes eight USB ports distributed across all three seating rows, with both Type-A and Type-C connections, plus an available wireless charging pad in the front row. The Ford Co-Pilot360 suite of safety technologies comes standard and higher trims offer additional features. This includes a 360-degree camera system, Active Park Assist 2.0, traffic sign recognition, and the optional BlueCruise hands-free highway driving system.
A Ford Explorer That Can Haul What Matters
The Ford Explorer offers two distinct powertrain options paired with a smooth-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission. The standard engine across most trims, including the new Tremor, is a turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost inline-four producing 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. This engine achieves 0-60 mph in approximately 6.2 seconds during testing and earned EPA ratings of 20 mpg city and 29 mpg highway with rear-wheel drive, dropping to 27 mpg highway with all-wheel drive. The performance-oriented ST model and luxury Platinum trim can be equipped with a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 engine generating 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. This is what makes the ST the fastest Ford Explorer model ever produced. This V6 powertrain achieves 0-60 mph in just 5.1 seconds and covers the quarter mile in 13.8 seconds at 100 mph.
